Majuli Largest River Island in the World -Assamese Cultural Hub

Majuli ,one of the largest populated river islands of the world,is a cultural haven of the state of Assam .It is advised not to visit the island during monsoon as flooding is big concern in the region .The biggest attraction are the satras which are Vaishnavite monasteries ,the largest one is Auniati satra .Another attraction of the island is the culture of the tribes-Mising, Deuri,Kachari, Ahom and chutias

Majuli had a total area of 1,250 square kilometers, but having lost significantly to erosion it has an area of only 421.65 square kilometers in 2001
